World Green Building Council invites BREEAM to join
In an unprecedented move, the World Green Building Council (WGBC) has invited BREEAM to join as a member.
BREEAM is the first and only non-Green Building Council to be invited to participate. This recognises the important role it has played in driving the agenda for sustainable buildings over the past 20 years.
Martin Wyatt, Chief Executive of the BRE Group, the developers of BREEAM said: "We are delighted to be invited to join the WGBC and welcome this move towards inclusiveness and partnership. We look forward to working together to drive international sustainability standards on a global basis."

1 BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) is the leading and most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings around the world, with almost 200,000 buildings certified and just under a million in total registered under the scheme. It sets the standard for best practice in sustainable design and has become the de-facto measure used to describe a building's environmental performance. Credits are awarded in nine categories according to performance. These credits are then added together to produce a single overall score on a scale of Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent and Outstanding which is also reflected in a star rating from 1 to 5 stars http://www.breeam.org/.
