West London Alliance appoints BRE in carbon reduction crusade

Sustainable Communities team will help drive efficiency improvements across local authority portfolios.

BRE’s Sustainable Communities team has been commissioned by the West London Alliance (WLA) to undertake a scoping study across six West London councils. The objective of the exercise is to identify collaborative opportunities to improve energy and resource efficiency and promote carbon reduction which will in turn, yield significant service improvements.

BRE’s role is to research the policy drivers and financial incentives around carbon and energy reduction that are applicable to the boroughs of Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham, Harrow and Hounslow. This research will feed into discussion groups with key stakeholders in planning, education, energy and building services from across the six boroughs to maximise the potential for collective saving initiatives.

The team will assess a range of factors including current or planned efficiency initiatives, energy and carbon reporting tools/software being used (what works and what doesn’t), and the key challenges, opportunities and incentives in energy management for each of the boroughs. Findings will be detailed in a report that will outline the priority collaboration areas offering the potential to deliver the largest carbon, energy and cost savings.
