New Environmental Benchmarking Club for property portfolio managers

A recently launched Environmental Benchmarking Club gives property portfolio managers exclusive access to benchmarking software that calculates the environmental profiles of large commercial building stocks.

This self-assessment tool has been developed by BRE and industry partners so that environmental performance scores can be produced quickly and easily.

The software uses readily available data to calculate the performance of building stock against benchmarks for energy, pollution, transport, water consumption, waste, longevity and management issues. By pinpointing where stock is performing badly, areas for improvement can be prioritised.

The environmental benchmarks can be used as part of an environmental policy or management system, to demonstrate year-on-year improvement and environmental credentials to investors and clients. It is also a risk management tool that can help investment decisions on renovation, disposal or purchasing.

The software is available to members of the Environmental Benchmarking Club, and technical support and advice will be provided. Members contribute to the software development process by providing data to help develop the tool further and refine the benchmarks.

Current Club members are:
 Alliance and Leicester plc
 Boots Company plc
 Telereal Limited
 Co-operative Bank plc
 Co-operative Insurance Society Ltd
 Consignia Property Holdings
 Covista (Abbey National)
 Friends Ivory & Sime Property Asset Management plc
 John Laing Property
 Prudential Portfolio Managers Ltd
 Royal Bank of Scotland

The first official meeting of BRE’s Environmental Benchmarking Club members was held at BRE on 5th March. These quarterly meetings give members an opportunity to meet and keep up-to-date with environmental and sustainability issues. The meetings include tips and training on using the software, and the results from the data analysis of the benchmarks.

Membership is £2500 per year for a single user, and £5000 per year for multi-users (up to five people).
