National Green Specification

More than 300 specifications for recycled construction products will be freely available from the National Green Specification website (www.greenspec.co.uk), as part of a two-year, DTI funded project being carried out by BRE in partnership with ASWS.

The project will also provide workmanship clauses for waste management activities on construction and demolition sites. The specifications and clauses will help designers and specifiers to make informed choices in terms of the protection of the environment, material resources, embodied energy, life expectancy and durability.

Recycled product manufacturers are currently being asked to provide information on their products which can be advertised on the National Green Specification (NGS) website - this is a free service. A web page will be produced for each product and will contain an image and brief summary, a link to downloadable specifications, guidance notes, literature and links to the manufacturer and suppliers.

This project is part of a wider NGS programme that aims to create and sustain a readymade specification for green products and methods of construction. It is primarily intended for use by architects, civil and structural engineers, manufacturers, suppliers, contractors and sub-contractors, self-builders, clients, and financiers.

Anyone with a recycled product that they would like included on the NGS website, or anyone wanting more details about the project should contact:

Katherine Adams at the Centre for Resource Management, BRE - E-mail: adamsk@bre.co.uk, Telephone: 01923 664478, Fax: 01923 664786.
