BRE Women’s Network

From L-R: Kerri-Emma Dobson, Farah Syed, Charlene Clear, Ana Quintas, Eleni Soulti

The BRE Women’s Network acts as a coordinating group to inspire and support women working in the built environment.  Our purpose is to encourage women to join and remain in this industry by promoting strength in diversity and showcasing the achievements and opportunities available to all in our sector.

The network hosts events throughout the year, collaborating with multiple channels and organisations. Events are centred on key themes – ‘Inspire’, ‘Involve’, ‘Learn’ and ‘Lead’, for both men and women, of all career stages and backgrounds, who wish to develop their skill sets by learning from the experiences of others.

There are so many women’s groups doing great things in the construction industry. We want our network to act as a portal bringing a taster of the activities and support that already exist directly to our site for the benefit of our colleagues and partners. This is a staff-led initiative, but senior management have been very supportive and see this as an activity in line with BRE’s ethos.

Helen Pineo, BRE Associate Director and founder of the network

Since its inception in 2013, the BRE Women’s Network has run a series of internal events on the following topics:

  • Gaining Confidence in a Digital World
  • Ambition with Excellence
  • Being Innovative and Keeping Agile
  • Customer focus and collaboration to increase business connections and potential.

In July 2013, the Network’s first external event, ‘Inspirational leaders in the built environment, involved industry leaders presenting on different leadership styles. In 2016, the network held an industry-wide, collaborative BEInspired event at the IET in central London. This event saw a wide array of built environment professionals convene for an evening of networking, and sharing of inspiring stories from accomplished speakers and other women’s networks across the sector.
