SmartHomes

The SmartHomes project is using BRE’s Victorian Terrace as a Knowledge Hub to showcase energy saving products and services . The Knowledge Hub also presents occupier behaviour patterns from data gathered from national trials and BRE’s Integer House of the Future.

The Aim

The SmartHomes Project aims to reduce customers’ energy requirements by installing smart technologies and sustainable refurbishment solutions to homes. Fundamental to the project’s success is understanding how smart technologies are used, how refurbishment solutions best perform and how these impact upon and affect occupier behaviour.

The Vision

The SmartHomes project is using BRE’s Victorian Terrace as a Knowledge Hub to showcase energy saving products and services . The Knowledge Hub also presents occupier behaviour patterns from data gathered from national trials and BRE’s Integer House of the Future.

The Knowledge Hub

An inter-connected room on the ground floor of the Victorian Terrace, refurbished to a high level of energy-efficiency, will be the operational focal point of the SmartHomes project.

Integer House

The National Refurbishment Centre is providing single occupants to provide live-in monitoring data and feedback on the house and heating/ energy solutions originally installed. It will also become a test-bed for newly-installed hardware and control systems , providing critical data on the occupier experience and changes in behaviour as fabric improvements are installed.

Field trials and case studies

British Gas has been carrying out real-life field trials of technologies and systems in different domestic properties. Data and case studies about the technologies will be displayed in the SmartHomes Knowledge Hub.
