Hilton Worldwide's European headquarters achieves BREEAM In-Use Certification

Hilton Worldwide’s European headquarters, Maple Court, has been awarded certification against all 3 parts of BREEAM In-Use, achieving 3* (Good Rating) for Asset Performance and Occupier Management, and 4* (Very Good Rating) for Building Management.

As part of the living sustainably pillar of Hilton Worldwide’s corporate responsibility strategy, Travel with Purpose, the company has a vested interest in improving the environmental performance of its buildings. It has used the BREEAM In-Use assessment scheme to successfully demonstrate this at Maple Court. BREEAM certified buildings meet some of the highest environmental performance standards, assessed through development, water and energy efficiency, material selection, air quality and design innovation. This in turn has a positive impact on not just the environment, but also those who work in the building.

Hilton Worldwide has implemented a clear and organised waste management system at Maple Court, recycling 90% of its waste in 2013, and using ecologically friendly material such as FSC-certified paper. Low-energy lighting, low-flow water systems and a centralised printing system have also been implemented. Bicycle racks have been fitted along with changing rooms to help promote cycling to work, and a full working gym, alongside various team social and cultural activities are contributing to the health and wellbeing of their Team Members.

Sarah Summerson of BREEAM said ‘Hilton Worldwide illustrated their commitment to the BREEAM In-Use scheme, certifying Maple Court to all 3 assessment parts in order to determine the asset’s overall environmental performance. They did particularly well in the Part 2 Building Management section, achieving a rating of ‘Very Good’, which is above average for an office block constructed in the early 90’s. We are extremely pleased that BREEAM In-Use was selected as the assessment methodology of choice.’

Pierce DeGross III, MCR, Vice President Global Workplace Services, Hilton Worldwide, said ‘We’re delighted that our 550 Team Member strong Maple Court office has been awarded BREEAM certification.  Hilton Worldwide is committed to its aim of living sustainably and ensuring the wellbeing of our Team Members. This achievement reinforces the importance we place on continuous improvement in these vital areas.’
