There are a number of key reasons to improve energy management in your organisation:
To save on costs
To comply with legislation
Management of risk
The rising cost of energy in the UK, over the last 3-4 years has highlighted the need for improved management of this resource. In addition to increasing prices, security of supply has also become an issue, particularly since the UK changed from a net exporter to an importer of gas in 2004, with production only satisfying approximately 70% of our demand in 2010.
The other major driver is Legislation, as in the case of those companies covered by the Climate Change Levy (CCL), Climate Change Agreements (CCAs) with DECC and the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC). These are typical of a raft of legislation designed to help meet the Government’s carbon reduction targets of which energy management is a key component.
Carrying out this process to the new ISO 50001 demonstrates that you are using industry-respected best practices. In addition it helps you to demonstrate to customers, competitors, suppliers, staff and investors that your business is run effectively.
This course will practically illustrate to those responsible for the operational activities of a business, how to implement a structured approach to energy management in order to reduce costs and environmental impact.
By implementing clear and effective energy management an organisation can quantify savings and reduce risk to the business.
ISO 50001 promotes the same management disciplines that are used in applying quality systems through ISO 9001 and environmental management systems through ISO 14001. As a result provides the auditable approach required by legislation such as the CRC.
