Code for Sustainable Homes Assessor Training - This event has already finished

CSH examinations and HQM training takes place on 21st September 2015.

Details :

This training course is for candidates who wish to become a Code for Sustainable Homes assessor. The course is three days, with an additional CSH examination day one month after the training. This additional day also includes training for the Home Quality Mark in the afternoon after the examinations.

Course Content and Duration

Days 1 and 2 of the course are a mixture of presentations and interactive workshops. Day 3 will be based in a computer suite for interactive training on using the calculator tools and online reporting system. The Code course covers:

  • A brief introduction to sustainable construction
  • Meeting environmental needs with the Code
  • The technical content of the Code for Sustainable Homes assessment method
  • The assessment process and support structures in place for the scheme and assessors

This scheme uses calculation tools which run in MS Excel with macros. Macintosh computers are unable to use this function and you will need access to a PC to complete assessments.

Course Fee: £1,250 + VAT

  • All course material and the Code for Sustainable Homes Technical Guidance.
  • Exams
  • Home Quality Mark training
  • Lunch and refreshments.
  • CPD certificate of attendance.

Who is this course aimed at?

Our training courses are designed to be suitable for all delegates, regardless of professional background or qualifications. However, the neccessary skills to become an assessor are: 

  • Capable of interpreting technical information
  • Capable of understanding building design drawings
  • Good communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Excel

Examination to be Qualified

Please note that if you are wishing to become a qualified and licensed Code for Sustainable Homes assessor you will require certification against the Competent Persons Scheme. This requires you to undertake two examinations of 90 minutes and 75 minutes respectively.  On the examination day delegates are required to bring approved photo ID. Without this they will not be admitted to the examinations.

Please note that it is a requirement that once qualified your organisation must hold a BREEAM licence agreement in order to carry out Code for Sustainable Homes and HQM (once operational) assessments. To become licensed, assessors are required to hold professional indemnity insurance. For more information please see our FAQ page.

  • Designing or specifying buildings for low environmental impact
  • Delivering Code for Sustainable Homes environmental assessments, and
  • Satisfying professional CPD requirements and gaining a recognised qualification at the same time

We would like delegates to be aware that as part of the conclusion to the Housing Standards Review, a written ministerial statement delivered on the 25th of March 2015 withdraws the Code (in England).  The Code still operates in Wales and Northern Ireland and also for legacy cases in England.  For further details please visit www.bre.co.uk/housing-standards-review
