NewsSAP 2012A public consultation has been launched on the latest changes to SAP – the Standard Assessment Procedure for the Energy Rating of Dwellings. SAP 2012 will underpin the 2013 update of Part L and equivalent legislation in Wales, Scotland and N Ireland. Proposed improvements cover the treatment of boiler systems, the use of regional weather data, default heat pump performance, pipe insulation and thermal bridging. The consultation also proposes amending CO2 emission factors to include the global warming impact of CH4 and N2O emissions. View and comment on the proposals at www.bre.co.uk/sap2012. First BREEAM badge of recognition for softwareSouthfacing, the creator of TrackerPlus, has been awarded the first BREEAM badge of recognition for software. TrackerPlus streamlines the BREEAM assessment process for members of the design team, and allows assessors to submit their assessments directly from the system to BREEAM for quality assurance (QA) and certification. More ... Finalists in Passivhaus competition announcedThe finalists in a competition to create Passivhaus demonstration homes for the BRE Innovation Parks in Watford and Scotland have been named. The aim of the competition has been to demonstrate that the Passivhaus standard can provide an affordable method of delivering ultra-low energy social and private housing. Launch of the Think Low Carbon CentreThe new Think Low Carbon Centre will be launched by Barnsley College, in collaboration with BRE, on 22 February 2012. The Centre will demonstrate the latest technologies and construction methods for making buildings ultra-energy efficient. Part funded by the European Union through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF programme 2007-13, it is open to companies seeking sustainable building skills and a better understanding of how they can benefit from new green initiatives such as the Government's Green Deal.
