Approved Certifiers of Buildings joining instructions for the Sole Practitioner
Training and Certification Schemes for Approved Certifiers of Building Design for Scotland
Approved Certifiers of Design are qualified individuals allowed to certify the energy design of buildings in Scotland, and to issue certificates in support of applications to local authorities for Building Warrants and amendments to Warrants.
Sole Practitioners interested in becoming Approved Certifiers need to apply for membership as both an individual and an Approved Body at the same time.
The individual wishing to register as Approved Certifier needs (as a minimum), to be qualified in the energy design of buildings. Qualifications can be gained by attending a four day training course (this covers all ten parts of Section 6 of the Building Regulations). Individuals (already qualified in energy design) may be exempt from part of the training. For further details on training courses/requirements click here.
The joining fee for a sole practitioner is set at £350 + VAT. This covers both the first year registration for the individual (as an Approved certifier) and his trading name (as the Approved Body). An annual fee of £350 + VAT is charged for continued membership thereafter.
Payment is by cheque (made payable to BRE Limited). The fee needs to accompany the application form and associated documents. A full VAT receipt will be emailed once payment has been accepted.
Registration of an individual is for a 3 year period initially, (charged via the annual fee). Every 3 years, individuals are expected to seek re-registration even though they may have been successfully audited in the meantime. After successful audit and re-application registration on the Scheme will be confirmed for a further 3 year period.
Please read the Scheme Documents and Guide before making an application.
