Opening of Visitor Centre with Alex Neil        Alex Neil and Rufus Logan

The Innovation Park has been developed on the site of the former steel works in Ravenscraig, Lanarkshire. The 1125-acre Ravenscraig site is being regenerated into a new town, with over 3,500 houses, sports facility, town centre, community spaces and transport links.

 Ravenscraig history

The Innovation Park is a demonstration development showcasing how the future of sustainable housing might look. The Park @Ravenscraig is being developed under the themes of:

 Energy Efficiency  Sustainability  Affordability  Community

These will provide a true vision of sustainable development, through integration of the landscape, community focus and zero carbon buildings.

The Innovation Park@Ravenscraig will address the future accommodation needs and domestic energy requirements for Scotland. It is intended to demonstrate over the nine plots a variety of innovative products and building systems to supply efficient and affordable housing. Click here for more information on the different plots.

The visitor centre was completed in early August 2012 and provides an information hub for the research activities undertaken at the Park. It  operates as a community facility, engaging with local groups such as school children, young adults and FE colleges. The visitor centre is a high-performance demonstration building in its own right.

The Innovation Park follows a ‘ground-up' approach to sustainable planning and development. The site features porous road surfaces and paving, a site wide SUDS system, native planting and landscaping, street furniture and lighting, and a natural play area.  Details on the infrastructure works and project partners can be found here.

The infrastructure works for the Park began in December 2010 and were completed in June 2011. Construction started on site in April 2012 and the Park is open to visitors with more than 2000 already visited the park.  Tours can be booked here.

The BRE Innovation Park @Ravenscraig has already attracted interest from more than 150 organisations that are providing innovative products and technologies for use within the demonstration buildings, or within the landscape.
