DSEAR training

Provision of training and information is a requirement of the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR) for all personnel who work in areas or handle substances that may produce potentially flammable atmospheres.

BRE Global offers the following safety training courses on DSEAR:

Package 1: DSEAR awareness
Topics covered:
• Overview of the regulations
• Explanation of dust and gas explosions, how they occur and the consequences
• Potential ignition sources
• Equipment and areas where flammable atmospheres are formed
• Risk assessment
• Hazardous area zoning and suitable ATEX certified equipment
• Explosion protection measures
• Management of DSEAR
• Video footage of large-scale dust, gas and vapour explosions conducted by BRE
• Small-scale dust explosion demonstration.

All trainees are provided with a certificate of attendance.
Duration: 3 hours.

Package 2: How to undertake dust risk assessment and hazardous area zoning
Topics covered:
• Overview of the regulations
• Explanation of dust and gas explosions, how they occur and the consequences
• Potential ignition sources
• Equipment and areas where flammable atmospheres are formed
• How to conduct a dust explosion risk assessment
• How to undertake hazardous area zoning for dust atmospheres
• Requirements for suitable ATEX equipment
• Dust explosion protection techniques
• Management of DSEAR
• Video footage of large-scale dust, gas and vapour explosions conducted by BRE
• Small-scale dust explosion demonstration.
• Practical exercises in risk assessment and hazardous area zoning.

All trainees are provided with a certificate of attendance.
Duration: 1 day.

Package 3: How to undertake gas/vapour risk assessment and hazardous area zoning
Topics covered:
• Overview of the regulations
• Explanation of dust and gas explosions, how they occur and the consequences
• Potential ignition sources
• Equipment and areas where flammable atmospheres are formed
• How to conduct a gas/vapour explosion risk assessment
• How to undertake hazardous area zoning for gas/vapour atmospheres
• Requirements for suitable ATEX equipment
• Explosion protection techniques
• Management of DSEAR
• Video footage of large-scale dust, gas and vapour explosions conducted by BRE Global
• Practical exercises in risk assessment and hazardous area zoning.

All trainees are provided with a certificate of attendance.
Duration: 2 days.

These courses can be undertaken at the client site or at the BRE site in Watford.


DSEAR Training - Risk assessment and hazardous area zoning for flammable dust, gas & vapour atmospheres

21 - 23 June 2017, BRE Watford
