Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products
BRE Global framework standard for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products
What is responsible sourcing?
Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products provides a holistic approach to managing a product from the point at which a material is mined or harvested in its raw state through manufacture and processing, through use, re-use and recycling, until its final disposal as waste with no further value.
Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products is demonstrated through an ethos of supply chain management and product stewardship and encompasses social, economic and environmental dimensions.
Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products addresses aspects such as stakeholder engagement, labour practices and the management of supply chains serving materials sectors upstream of the manufacturer.
New framework standard for responsible sourcing
BRE Global has launched a new framework standard (BES 6001) for the Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products - Please see the Green Book Live Responsible Sourcing of Construction Products page to access the standard and related information.
The standard sets out requirements under 3 main headings:
- Organisational management
- Supply chain management
- Environmental and social issues
To meet this Standard, organisations must satisfy certain compulsory elements. In addition, there are higher levels of compliance that can result in a higher performance rating being awarded. This Standard will also provide a route to obtaining credits under the BREEAM family of certification schemes.
