First Chinese BREEAM assessor and accredited professional training in Beijing

BRE and China’s quality certification body CQC are delivering the first Chinese BREEAM assessor and BREEAM accredited professional training courses at the CQC headquarters in Beijing today.

The training reflects growing demand for BREEAM in China as national and regional governments drive for more sustainable development across the country. Delegates are from Tsinghua University, Arup, Atkins, Hong Kong Green Building Council, state developer Merchant Group and Mohurd, the Chinese Ministry for Construction.

Director of BRE China Jaya Skandamoorthy said ‘There are already some fantastic BREEAM projects in China like the BREEAM Outstanding Living Lattice building in Meixi Lake Eco-city but this training will enable us to significantly increase the uptake of the standard in the country. BREEAM adapts well in the Chinese marketplace because many aspects of it are comparable with the Chinese 3-star sustainability standard for buildings. The Chinese like BREEAM because it is based on sound science, its takes a broad perspective on sustainability and crucially it delivers real results for people, for business and for the environment.’
