Albion Road Clinic achieves BREEAM Healthcare first
Albion Road Clinic in North Shields is the first building in the UK to achieve post-construction certification under BREEAM Healthcare 2008 with a ‘Very Good' rating.
Carol Atkinson, Chief Executive of BRE Global, said: "This is an excellent achievement made all the more impressive by the fact that it has been achieved for a refurbished building. The project team have worked extremely well together and showed what is possible in upgrading an existing facility to meet local health needs and, at the same time, achieve higher levels of sustainability."
Andrew Moore, of architects Space Group said "We always work hard to make sure that our projects are completed to the highest standard and so for BREEAM to award the Albion Road refurbishment a ‘Very Good' rating and hold it up as a model of best practice is excellent. We are looking forward to similar rating levels for our other schemes."
The facility, operated by North Tyneside Primary Healthcare Trust, meets the Department of Health's requirement for all refurbishments to achieve a rating of at least ‘Very Good'.
Features of the refurbishment which scored well under BREEAM include the provision of water efficient bathroom fittings, the use of responsibly sourced materials and a new Building Management System to reduce energy consumption.
