Environment Minister catches a glimpse of the future on the BRE Innovation Park

An affordable house made from renewable materials and a recycled steel factory-manufactured home were just two of the buildings viewed by Richard Benyon MP, DEFRA Minister for the Natural Environment at the BRE Innovation Park earlier today.

The Minister was invited to the site in Watford by BRE to see some of the ways in which it is helping the construction industry meet the challenges it faces in the delivery of sustainable buildings and communities.

Mr Benyon was also shown the landscaping scheme on the Park and the innovative ways in which it contributes to energy, waste and water management strategies for the mini-community.

Speaking about the Renewable House Mr Benyon said "What I've been looking at today is important in terms of affordable housing that is sustainable, can be built quickly and that reflects how people want to live. I'm impressed to see such a wide variety of innovation here.'

The BRE Innovation Park in Watford features twelve world-leading sustainable homes and buildings that demonstrate diverse and innovative approaches to low impact design and construction.
