BRE moves up nine places in the Best Green Companies Listing
The BRE Group has achieved a fantastic 26th place in the Sunday Times Best Green Companies Listing which acknowledges organisations with a pioneering approach to improving their environmental performance
Stuart Blofeld who developed BRE’s sustainability strategy – The S Plan – says ‘We are delighted with this result – we’ve made significant progress since last year, moving up nine places in the overall list. Like many other companies we face a range of challenges specifically with regard to the energy efficiency of our office and laboratory buildings some of which date from the mid-1800s but we are determined to keep improving our operations and minimising our impact on the environment.’
BRE was also rated third in the Best big to medium-sized companies with low environmental impact category. Blofeld added ‘A particular highlight of our sustainability achievements this year was hitting our 70% waste diversion from landfill target which puts BRE on track to meet its zero waste to landfill commitment by 2012.’
Now in its third year, the Sunday Times Best Green Companies venture is unique. It combines a robust methodology to measure corporate environmental performance with a survey of company employees to find out whether the company standards and procedures are executed all the way down to the shop floor.
