Fire risk assessment and fire risk assessor training

A fire risk assessment will help you identify the fire hazards and risk in your organisation. A fire can seriously damage or even destroy a business.  Are you clear about the new fire legislation and your responsibility for fire safety?

The fire law is changing - are you up to speed?

As part of the Government's commitment to reduce death, injury and damage caused by fire, DCLG (formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) are reviewing the fire safety law and are proposing to make a number of changes through the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order of 2005 (RRO). The proposed changes will apply to non-domestic premises and will come into force in October 2006 throughout England and Wales*. The RRO will replace most existing general fire safety legislation, for example, fire certificates will be abolished and will cease to have any legal status. The new fire legislation will cover fire precautions and other fire safety duties which are needed to protect people in case of a fire in non-domestic premises.

Type of premises covered by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) order of 2005 (RRO):

  • Fire risk assessment of shops and offices
  • Fire risk assessment of hotels and other sleeping accommodation
  • Residential care premises
  • Educational premises
  • Small and medium places of assembly
  • Large places of assembly
  • Theatres and cinemas
  • Outdoor events
  • Healthcare premises
  • Transport premises and facilities
