BREEAM Communities 2012 is targeted at neighbourhood scale developments. It aims to help the design team, developers and planners to improve, measure and independently certify the sustainability of a large scale developments at the design and planning stage. The scheme influences sustainability at the early stages of project development through community engagement, site strategy and implementation in design. This can lead into BREEAM assessments of buildings and homes.
Event programme
Module 1 – Day 1
- an introduction to BREEAM Communities
- the international, national and local context for sustainable communities
- when to use BREEAM Communities and which projects are suitable
- meeting key sustainability objectives with BREEAM Communities
- meeting key planning requirements with BREEAM Communities
- the links between BREEAM Communities 2012 and building level assessments.
Module 2 – Days 2 and 3
- timescales, phasing and assessment
- the technical aspects of BREEAM Communities
- an introduction to the scoring tool
- the assessor’s role
- the assessment process
- using BREEAM Communities 2012 outside of the UK.
Examination & Test Assessment:
Please note that all those wishing to undertake BREEAM Communities 2012 assessments are required to achieve certification against the Competent Persons Scheme provided by BRE Global. For certification you are required to undertake an exam in controlled classroom conditions at the end of Day 3.
Please note that you must present acceptable photo identification (ID) for admission to the examination. This may be either your passport, driving licence or EU ID card. Please note that without photo ID you will not be permitted to undertake the examination.
Unlike other BREEAM schemes, there is no BREEAM Communities 2012 test assessment. New assessors will have their first two BREEAM Communities 2012 assessments fully quality assured by BRE Global to ensure accuracy and understanding of the scheme. An application form for certification against the Competent Persons Scheme is then completed after you have successfully completed these two assessments.
What can be assessed with the BREEAM Communities 2012 Assessor qualification?
- BREEAM Communities 2012 assessments at the design and planning stage within the United Kingdom and internationally.
It will not allow Assessors to:
- Carry out assessments either within the UK or elsewhere using a BREEAM version for which they do not have the correct training, qualification or licence.

Course fee
When using our online booking server, prices will be converted to UK Pounds. Please note that all delegates who attend this training course in a country other than the UK will not pay VAT. Our online booking facility automatically charges a "VAT" amount. However, we have calculated this into the price to mean that the final transaction will be £1475. The price of the training in the UK is £1475 + VAT.
