Heat Networks in Planning - This event has already finished
City Hall, London
A practical 2 day course providing new skills for local authority planners and associated professionals
District heating networks are an effective low carbon energy solution for heating and cooling our towns and cities. This course on Heat Networks in Planning now includes a session on DECC's heat mapping tool (for events held in Wales, the Welsh Government’s Renewable and Low Carbon Energy toolkit for planners). Through sustainable urban energy planning local authority planners play a crucial role in supporting and enabling the emergence of these systems.
Event programme
This two-day course is designed to equip planners and other professionals with the skills and knowledge required to overcome the non-technical barriers currently impeding the uptake of district heating networks using recycled and renewable heat.
By the end of the training, delegates will:
- Understand the potential for renewable energy generation through the use of district energy systems
- Learn how to use DECC's new Heat Mapping Tool (for events held in Wales the Welsh Government’s Renewable and Low Carbon Energy toolkit for planners).
- Know how to develop and integrate sustainable energy policies into the planning process
- Translate these policies into day-to-day working practices.
Could delegates please bring a (fully charged) laptop along on Day 1 to gain hands-on practice of tools during the session.
Intended audience
Although primarily aimed at planners, the sessions will also be useful for other local authority professionals including sustainability and energy officers, and also for deveopers, architects and consultants.
