This course will provide a comprehensive introduction to renewable energy technologies. It will allow the participant to make a fundamental assessment of the energy efficiency and cost of a particular renewable technology in relation to Scotland.
The course will:
- Outline the regulations, planning constraints and conservation legislation in relation to energy
- Define and discuss sustainability and the importance of energy efficiency and conservation
- Describe and discuss the main principles of Renewable Technology Systems
- Review each of the main types of renewable systems and discuss their basic principles of operation and appropriate locations for their use
- Provide guidance on what further information can be found
Programme :
- Renewable energy systems
- Why are renewable energy systems and sustainability so important
- Review of the following technologies:
- Elecrticity generated by Photovoltaics
- Solar Thermal, Solar Water Heating and Thermal Mass Storage
- Heat Pumps: Air, Water and Ground Source
- Biomass and Wood Heating
- Wind Generators: Small and Medium Scale
- Integrating and controlling renewable energy technologies
- Case studies to demonstrate the benefits of each of the above technologies
- Summary of most effective systems
At the end of the course candidates should feel confident about starting to think about installing or specifying a particular renewable technology.
