JPA Designer is a comprehensive software program for assessing conduction heat losses, carbon dioxide emissions and interstitial condensation risk which is intended for use during the design stage to evaluate energy performance and to demonstrate compliance with the energy conservation requirements of Building Regulations and Technical Standards. JPA Designer comprises SAP and U-Value Modules.

JPA SAP Module assesses the energy performance of dwellings using version 9.81 of the government's Standard Assessment Procedure: it is approved by BRE for use in demonstrating compliance with Building Regulations (Part L in England and Wales; Section 6 in Scotland; Part F in Northern Ireland). The software can also be used to issue Energy Performance Certificates for new dwellings.

JPA UValue Module Calculates U-values of roofs, walls and intermediate floors, using the combined method (BS EN ISO 6946:1997) and ground floor and basement U-Values using the methods in BS EN ISO 13370.

Sapper software has been in use since the introduction of Part L into the England and Wales regulations, and has constantly been evolving and improving with the changes in the SAP specification and has become one of the most user-friendly software packages available.  Sapper version 8 follows the worksheet 9.81 specification (SAP 2005), incorporating the 2008 amendments.  It can be used in Scotland for the production of EPCs and in England, Wales and Northern Ireland it will produce EPCs and lodge the data. Inputting the required data is processed in a logical and easy manner, the resulting outputs, DER, TER etc are easy to view at run-time.  The calculation of U-Values can be complicated, but the integral U-Value calculator in Sapper version 8 makes the job easy and will automatically enter the calculated values into the SAP algorithm.
