How to apply

To apply to become a member of the BRE Global Accreditation Scheme for Energy Assessors for newly constructed dwellings you should first review the following information (the following links will open PDF documents):

Once we have confirmed your acceptance for the APEL route you will be sent full details of the assessment process and a list of the evidence and further information that you are required to submit. If, for any reason, we are not able to accept your application we will advise you of alternative routes that may be open to you and we will refund your payment in full.
If you are applying for the APEL route you should initially complete and return the following:
- APEL Application Form
- Copies of appropriate Qualification and Training Certificates
- Scheme Application Form
- A certified copy of your passport or a photo ID driving licence
- 2 certified passport size photographs
- The APEL and scheme application fees
- The Scheme membership fee where appropriate
Once you are accepted for the APEL route you will be sent full details of the assessment process and a list of the evidence and further information that you are required to submit.
If you have qualified through the Diploma route you should complete the standard Application Form and return it to us with:
- A certified copy of your Diploma Certificate
- A certified copy of your passport or a photo ID driving licence
- 2 certified passport size photographs
- The application and membership fee
Who may certify documents:
- A professionally qualified person
- A police officer
- A magistrate
- A bank or building society officer
- A civil servant
- A minister of religion
- A local councillor, MP, AM, MEP or MSP
They should certify the documents as follows:
"I (name and surname) certify that this is a true copy of the original document" Please ensure that the person signing the documents also prints their name, clearly states their profession or status and provides contact details.

The Scheme Manager will formally assess this information and recommend acceptance of an applicant to join the scheme, or reject the applicant taking due account of the “fit and proper” and other requirements of the Scheme Document. Where there is a need for discretion in the interpretation of the requirements of membership the Scheme Manager’s decision will be final.Membership will be renewed every three years. The results of quality audits on the work and conduct of the member and the lifelong learning record will be taken into consideration when renewing membership.
