BREEAM Associate: meeting the needs of industry
A new online course designed to develop proactive sustainability teams
The purpose of the new online training is to ensure delivery teams and clients, including contractors, engineers, architects, product manufacturers and supply chains, can be effective and proactive, giving knowledge and confidence when going in to the BREEAM process so as to get the best result in the most efficient way. It will be the building block to help understand what BREEAM is about, involves, and how to successfully support the process day to day. Whilst BREEAM credits will not be awarded for Associate involvement, it will enhance the ability to embed appropriate consideration of the issues throughout the design and construction process, improving the opportunities for high performance at low cost and hassle.
The material in the course is completely new, and focuses on how and when to work with Assessors and Sustainability Champions. It sets out the behaviours needed to drive positive and cost effective results in BREEAM projects, and discusses the need for early engagement with BREEAM and relevant professionals.
The new training will be delivered completely online, including the examination which if passed leads to the award of a BREEAM Associate badge. An annual subscription and CPD requirement will ensure up to date knowledge and continued use of the badge.
The new scheme, which is relevant to all BREEAM schemes except BREEAM In-Use and BREEAM Communities, was piloted by 10 organisations; Arcadis, ASSA ABLOY, BAM, BT, Ferrovial, Grontmij, HOK, ISG, Segro and WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff. These organisations put just under 400 individuals through the pilot. They are now rolling BREEAM Associate training out to more teams due to the affordable pricing of £195+VAT per person, with further group discounts available.
BREEAM Associate was launched at the BREEAM Awards on the 8/3/2016. You can sign up to this course here (please note this will take you to our new platform)
